Brendan Cole will not be returning to Strictly Come Dancing

It has been confirmed that professional dancer Brendan Cole will not be returning for the next series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Brendan made an appearance on Lorraine this morning to announce the news, which was decided by the Strictly bosses. Speaking to Lorraine Kelly, he said: “They made an editorial decision not to have me back on the show.”

“I’m a little bit in shock at the moment. I’m quite emotional and a bit raw about it. I am very disappointed. It’s an editorial decision. I will never know the ins and outs. I have had 15 incredible series on the show, I’m very proud of the whole show, they’re a great team.”

Brendan has been a staple part of the show since its launch in 2004. He has taken part in all fifteen series and was the first ever winner, dancing alongside newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky. He also won the most recent Christmas special, with presenter Katie Derham.

During his time on the show, Brendan gained a ‘bad boy’ reputation due to his disagreements with the judges. However, the disagreements derived from the fact that he was always fiercely passionate and loyal when it came to defending his dance partners.

A Strictly Come Dancing spokesman tweeted their thanks earlier, stating: “We’d like to thank @BrendanCole for being part of the show since the beginning – winner of the first series – and for the contribution he has made to its success. We wish him all the very best for the future.”

We’re sad to see Brendan go after being such a strong character and key part of Strictly Come Dancing over the years. We will miss his incredible routines and feisty comebacks, but we wish him all the best with his future endeavours.
