Dusty Baker was born to parents Johnnie Baker and Christine Baker. They share five children, and Dusty is the oldest child.

To this day, Dusty Baker remembers the warm memories of his parents and does not shy away from showing his sentimental self to the public.

Johnnie B. “Dusty” Baker Jr is an American baseball manager of the Houston Astros in Major League Baseball (MLB).

Previously, he played for the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and Oakland Athletics.

Moreover, Baker managed the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, and Washington Nationals.

The former athlete is a two-time All-Star, two-time World Series champion, and 1981 Gold Glove Award winner. He also won the Silver Slugger Award twice  (1980, 1981) and NL Manager of the Year thrice (1993, 1997, 2007).

Dusty Baker was born to his parents, Johnnie Baker Sr and Christine Baker. His parents birthed five children, and Dusty was the oldest.

The nickname “Dusty” came from his mother because of his propensity for playing in a dirt spot in the backyard.

Growing up, Baker played various sports, including basketball and baseball.

Johnnie B Baker Sr, Dusty’s father, was an Air Force sheet-metal technician at Norton Air Force Base. He was a World War II veteran and worked at McClellan Air Force Base. 

The senior Baker was born in 1925 and passed away in 2009 at the age of 84. Furthermore, he was the father of seven children from different marriages. 

Johnnie enlisted in the Navy when he was 18. In 1968, he moved to Sacramento, California, with his family, where he raised his children.

After retirement, the senior Baker served as one of the developers of the Dusty Baker International Baseball Academy. He was known as the “Head Coach” there.

Furthermore, his student-athletes loved and respected him and called him a “disciplinarian and protector.” In fact, Johnnie was so good at his work that students from all around the US and Australia came to learn from one of the best “skills” camps.

One of the famous quotes Baker gave was, “An important lesson that I hope they (all people) learn is to be patient and understanding and think about other people and how they feel. Don’t be too quick to criticize.”

Mother: Christine

Dusty Baker’s mother, Freddie Christine Baker, was a loving mother about whom her son still talks about today. She was born on March 1, 1931, in Indio, California. 

Her career spanned teaching and counseling at Sacramento State University. She was also involved in modeling and served as an advisor at Vacaville State Prison.

In a conversation with The Sacramento Bee, Dusty said he still thought about his mother, who passed away at the age of 90 in January 2022. Her death was from natural causes brought on by dementia.
