Kaleb Lane Dies in Topeka, KS, shooting Eisenhower Middle School 8th-grade student

Kaleb Lane passed away on March 16 as a result of a tragic accident shooting, according to an email sent to area parents by Dr. Tiffany Anderson, superintendent of Topeka USD 501.

His age of 13 was also validated by the Topeka Police Department, who also verified his identity. At Eisenhower Middle School, Lane was a pupil in the eighth grade. Anderson calls Lane “a fun-loving, energetic student with many friends”

For any employees or students at Eisenhower and other schools who will be affected by Lane’s passing, according to Anderson, a mental health team will be in place.

The 1300 block of Southwest Garfield Avenue was the scene of an unintentional gunshot that was reported to the Topeka Police Department at 8:29 p.m.

In relation to this event, a 14-year-old boy has been taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder.
