Lili Reinhart Talks About Feeling Like She Was Dying During Her Bouts With Depression

Publish date: 2024-05-29

Lili Reinhart has never been the type to not speak on mental health and how being in the industry affects hers. After much speculation that the Riverdale stars called it quits on their multi-year relationship, it was confirmed earlier this year.

Although she never named Cole Sprouse directly, she was completely candid about the seriousness of depression.

‘The last couple of months have probably [been] the most emotional few months of my entire life and my therapist [told] me, ‘Your body’s going through withdrawal from love. You’re used to having this exchange of happy chemicals between you and the person that you’re with.” she explained to Refinery 29 which was seemingly in reference to her split with Cole.

Instead of taking to usual vices one may go to when dealing with such a hard time, Lili took the time to really feel the pain.

‘I was like, I feel like I’m dying. It was f****** rough, and there’s no other way through it than just through it. I’ve seen a lot of people when it comes to heartache and grief and breakups, and they try to get that void filled with sex, with coke, with food, with drinking, [but] the void is still there. I took the road less traveled and just dealt with my s***. I had to face my own pain head-on.’

Quotes taken from my most recent interview are not about a “breakup.” They are about the depression I’ve felt over these last few months. Tired of people taking my words out of context and piecing together their own story for clickbait.

After the interview made headlines, Cole came out with a rare statement that confirmed the split was finalized in March of this year after being considered in January.

Reinhart took to Twitter to say that her words were about her depression and not her breakup.

‘Quotes taken from my most recent interview are not about a ‘breakup.’ They are about the depression I’ve felt over these last few months. Tired of people taking my words out of context and piecing together their own story for clickbait.’
