The Courteeners Release New Music Video For 'Modern Love'

Publish date: 2024-05-19

The Courteeners have released their video for new single ‘Modern Love’.

The track, taken from the bands fifth studio Mapping The Rendezvous, was co-written with The Hurts.

Speaking exclusively to NME about the song, Courteeners lead guitarist Liam Fray said “this is the first time we’ve written a song with other people.”

“It was a co-write with the guys from Hurts. We’ve know them for over 10 years and have a pretty good friendship.”

“They sent our producer a song, and they didn’t like it. It was very ‘them’ – a bit ’80s but full on. But I was like ‘I love this track’.”

‘Modern Love’ serves as the third single from Mapping The Rendezvous following ‘The 17th’ and ‘No One Will Ever Replace Us’.

Mapping The Rendezvous was met with mixed reviews upon its release last year.

NME described the record as if “they’d only made half of a very good album”, but Hotpress disagreed stating The Courteeners “break out of their indie-pop straitjacket; the results are riveting.”

Speaking about the inspiration behind the album Liam Fray said “The album was inspired by the film ‘Victoria’ – one snapshot of a big night out.”

“It’s romantic, it’s sad, you’re making bad decisions, you regret it in the morning, you do it all again the next night.”

“It’s about living fast. He’s just following his muse around Paris and it’s beautiful.”

The Courteeners will play Manchester Emirates Old Trafford LCCC on Saturday, May 27th.

Also on the bill are The Charlatans, Blossoms & Cabbage.
